Lamp shade dimensions are typically measured as top x bottom x slant.
Measuring lamp shade size.
The height of a table lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base to bottom of socket x 60 up to 70.
The width of the lamp shade is equal to the height of the base of the lamp.
The slant is the length of the side of the lamp shade.
To choose the right lamp shade width measure your lamp base and multiply by two.
Measure shade height along the slant.
For a round base measure straight across.
The height of a floor lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base x 30 to 40.
The widest part of your shade should be at least a half inch wider than the widest part of your base on each side.
Bottom denotes the diameter or width of the bottom of the lamp shade.
Lastly the lampshade must be wider than the widest part of the lamp base.
If your shade has a square shape measure one side of the square from corner to corner for the proper measurement.
If you are happy with the size of the shade you are replacing just measure the old one with a ruler or retractable tape measure.
Hold your tape measure at one end of the top edge of the lamp shade and pull it across to the opposite edge in the right in the middle.

Place the measuring tape across the top diameter in the center.
