What can i do to get it dried. Mistake 3 using an old can of finish. Stains are designed to dry in the wood not on the wood. Overlay with varnish not exactly my top option.

Apply seal with a coat of shellac. Its unique non drip formula makes application easy for vertical surfaces. The surface will be sticky if you didn t wipe it down enough 15 minutes after application. Wipe off any stain the wood does not absorb.

The remaining stain will come off. What happened why isn t it dry cured yet. You ll notice the front of the minwax wood finish product says penetrates stains and seals. Anytime i have let my stain harden on top of the wood it turned sticky and uneven and rubbed off easily.

Don t rush the process. Time will probably not make the tackiness go away. So much so i had to clean some of it off my hands. Take a dry rag after 24 hours and wipe down the surface.

After wiping off the excess it should be almost dry. Typically if minwax stain is still tacky after 4 6 hours there was too much stain left behind.
